Eat: Unicorn Cake

Unicorn cake is what we are calling this. Named by the one and only Addie Rivers. Who is obsessed with all things pink, glittery and unicorns. Summer is in full swing around here which means this mom is trying to find so much to do around the house to keep everyone entertained until nap time. And when I say nap time I mean for EVERYONE. Including me.

I'm so thankful to have a girl that shares her love for all of the girly things with me. One of our favorite things to do together is bake. Or I'm usually the one doing all of the baking while she ask a million questions. "Mom do you think unicorns are real? Do they have glitter all over them? I wonder if all of them are pink?" and on and on. Oh and she's pretty good at trying to eat ALL of the icing before it ever even hits the cake.

Yesterday she REALLY wanted to bake a "unicorn" cake. She once asked for a "cake of Sully"s face from Monsters Inc." That literally took me fifteen hours. So I decided it would be fun to kick off the summer with a little baking! Instead of an actual cake in the shape of a unicorn (that would have been brutal) we compromised on unicorn colors.

I checked out the pantry and of course we didn't have cake mix. So we made our first official homemade vanilla cake mix complete with homemade buttercream frosting. You guys, it was to die for. Seriously too yummy. Such fun memories we had making this cake. If you have a tiny girl in your house I highly recommend making her day with this cake!

I found the cake recipe here

Luckily we had everything we needed on hand.
For the icing we used a simple recipe that I use every single time I make buttercream frosting. Which is often.

Here is what you will need:

Mix it all in your mixer and your ready to ice your unicorn cake!

Monday Must Haves: Camino Beach

Summertime is here which can only mean one thing. It's time for the beach. The beach is always my favorite. Even if we have the kids in tow it still seems to be relaxing. Im not sure if it's the endless  sunshine, the morning mimosas, being with family, reading good book to the sound of the crashing waves or all of the above.

Books- the are a must have for beach trips and I'm going to tell you about the perfect summer read you need to get yours hands on! Camino Beach is a book by someone I met a few years ago through my brother and sister in law. Amanda Callendier is pretty fabulous. I had the honor of celebrating her new book with my sister-in-law Sara and another friend of theirs. Let's just say the night ended on many laughs and "three rounds".

Thank you Amanda for being so cool and bringing us this great book for summer '17!

You can find the book on Amazon

Let me know what you think of it!

Family: Snacking Made Easy

A huge thank you to ChooMee for sponsoring this post!

There is nothing our family loves more than summertime. Beach trips, pool days and play dates. You name it- these Donahoe kiddos love it. one of our favorite additions to our pantry is what our kids call "fruit squeezies" and I'm sure others can agree. They are easy, mess free and lets face it- packed with fruits and veggies that sometimes we just can't get our kids to eat.

A couple of weeks ago I sent Barrett to the store to pick up a few things. One being those glorious fruit packs. He called me kind of in shock at the price of them! That's when we found Choomee.

Choomee is the holy grail to a "fruit squeeze" I'm able to whip up my own blend of fruits and veggies  and put them into the reusable pouches or you can put a resealable cap on your store bought fruit pouch!

We have so many fun things planned for this summer. Im so happy Choomee is able to take a little stress off of the snack packing for the next three months!

The essentials- What's in my bag

Let's be honest. We all love to see what other girls are carrying around in there purses and diaper bags. Sometimes I look down and realize I'm carrying around two week old snacks, about 50 target receipts, and a tube of lipstick that is missing a top.

Come on y'all it happens. As a part of my new "let's be more organized" life I wanted to show you what's in my bag these days. Now that I don't have a tiny babe (cue all the tears) I can get away with using one big bag for all of us!

My first bit of advice. If you want to make any bag a diaper bag, you'll be so much better off if you have a diaper bag divider. This is so helpful so you aren't sending 30 minutes searching for one item.

1. Find a bag you love you use it everyday! Don't feel like you need to sacrifice your cute style to carry a diaper bag.

2. Your bag divider. This is the key essential piece if you want to use a purse and not a diaper bag and trust me it's a life saver.

3. The "babies" and the pacifier"s . If I forget either one of these things our day is pure misery!

4. The mama necessities. The lipstick, the Rose Water and the wine.

Wait what? totally kidding about that one. (Not really)

5. SNACKS.  Just don't forget this one ok?

6. and last but very important- the sunblock and the bug spray
(this one from Beautycounter is great. We love it for the whole fam)

I hope this post is helpful if your trying to figure out some new things to throw in the bag!
As always you can shop any of the items we use my clicking on the links or down below-

Have a great Tuesday!

The Best Cookies EVER.

As a mom I've come to the conclusion that in order to have a happy family that I need to keep cookies in the jar at ALL TIMES. Ok, I'm totally joking! But in all honesty it helps.

When the babes are cranky throw a cookie their way, when their driving you insane give them a cookie, and when your husband has had a stressful day at work hand him a cookie before bed.
I tell Barrett about three time a month that baking "nurtures my soul" and it really does. So in reality be baking helps out everyone.

I've tried several homemade cookie recipes and I think I have finally hit the jackpot of all cookies.

It's super simple and SUPER yum.

Check out the recipe below if you want a happy family ;)

The Best Cookies EVER.

Blogging has been a love of one for several years now.
Being a mom and wife always comes first in my life. Our family has been on the struggle bus lately. This past year has been insane for us. It's been great! Barrett's schedule of running  a school makes him super busy. Having two babies makes my schedule super busy.

Happy Birthday Hayes!

My sweet sweet Hayes. He came into this world loving his mama from the get go. H nursed like a champ for nine months until he decided himself he was completely over it. He's always been a pretty great sleeper. He loves his sister and brother BIG. He is a complete mama's boy but at the same time he's all about his daddy. He's 100% the definition of a boy. He's wild, is baseball obsessed and loves to get dirty!

I thank God every day for choosing our family to be Hayes'. We love you Haysie Daisy! Thank you for being the best "bubba" for the past two years!

When Addie Rivers was two Barrett and I decided we wanted to try extending our family. We had barely even "thought" about it and bam. We were pregnant. At this time Barrett and I were running five days a week. At least three miles a day. One day a put AR down for a nap like usual and was getting ready to get on the treadmill and I felt terrible. I called Barrett and told him I thought I was getting the flu. So while AR napped I curled up on the couch and watched reality tv. About thirty minutes later I called Barrett back. "You don't think I'm pregnant do you?" his response was, "Babe its been like two seconds! no!"

I hung up and remember i had a box of pregnancy test in the bathroom. I thought to myself, "What's it gonna hurt to take one, I'm probably not pregnant." Fast forward about five minutes. I called Barrett laughing. " OMG...im pregnant!" I'll always remember the excitement I heard in his voice. I had thought before I got pregnant that this time I would tell him in a cute way but my emotions got the best of me and I just couldn't wait. Besides morning sickness for a few weeks it was such an easy pregnancy.

May 4th, 2015. We had a scheduled c-section (We ended up having to have one the first go round so our doctor thought it was best to have a repeat.) We got there about 6:30 and our section was scheduled for 9am. Both mine and Barrett's parents were at home with the kids getting them ready. Our doctor came in about 8:45. "Okay we're ready!" and yep. None of our family was there yet lol. They got there just as they took me back.

We had such a great doctor and pediatrician. While we were in Columbus Barrett was the high school principal. It just so happened that both our doctor and pediatrician had children at his school. So while I'm in the mist of surgery the three of them are chatting along about SCHOOL!
But honestly, it helped to ease my nerves.

He came into this world with the most precious cry and looking nothing like his sister did as a newborn. Two years feels like two days. Time is such a thief! Forever my tiny baby boy.
